Pinniped Portraits

From Point Bennett to Año Nuevo.

To the casual observer, they are loud, chaotic, and (admittedly) a little smelly. But I see something else entirely.

This collection is a love letter to the Pacific’s pinnipeds. From the remote rookeries of San Miguel Island to the dunes of Año Nuevo, my goal is to show you a side of these animals that most humans never see.

By utilizing extreme telephoto optics, I capture the quiet intimacy and distinct personality of each subject - revealing their true nature without them ever knowing I am there. This allows us to witness unguarded, natural behaviors, from the raw power of an Elephant Seal battle to the quiet curiosity of a harbor seal pup, while strictly adhering to our philosophy of "Admire from Afar."
